Eco Therapy

ECO THERAPY

Ecotherapy, forest bathing, re-wilding.  All names for connection with nature.  As well as the obvious joys of being outside in nature the changing of the seasons, stimulation of the senses and a general feeling of wellbeing, what other benefits are there to what has been named the biophilia – the scientific and spiritual healing bond between humans and nature.

Plants keep up healthy by communicating with our nervous system.  This keeps us physically and mentally healthy and helps to prevent illness.  Plants can heal without us having to process them, add them to creams and lotions or use their oils.

How does this happen?  Plants send molecules of information called turpines to attract insects, warn about pests and send toxins to deter them; nature’s intelligence at work!

Our immune system affects every disease.  By inhaling these turpines it increases our killer cells and lowers blood pressure (this can continue for days after the forest visit) and this cocktail of bioactive substances released into the air is absorbed through our skin and lungs. Therefore, turpines are a healing elixir with many healing benefits.

To further enhance these health benefits, we use our senses in a mindful way helping us to release stress, anxiety and depression.  Mindfulness connects us to the present moment and encourages us to look at things with a beginner’s mind, allowing a connection to your body.
